  • Companionship and conversation: emotional support and social interaction that help ease loneliness and support mental well-being.
  • Shared activities: games, hobbies, storytelling and reminiscing, and walks or outings.
  • Light housekeeping and organization: help with cleaning, laundry and keeping the home safe and easy to manage.
  • Meal preparation: nutritious meals and hydration reminders.
  • Reminders and errands: medication reminders, prescription pick-up and errands.
  • Transportation: incidental transportation to doctor appointments, shopping and social events.
  • Safety supervision: someone nearby to make sure your loved one is safe while completing everyday tasks.

Companion care does not include medical procedures or treatments. If your loved one needs hands-on help with bathing, dressing or grooming, see our personal care services.

Who Companion Care Helps

Companion care is often a good fit for seniors who are physically stable but struggle with loneliness, mild cognitive decline or daily routines. It can help when you notice:

  • Frequent loneliness or boredom, or long periods spent alone
  • Loss of interest in hobbies, friends or social activities
  • Skipped meals, neglected housekeeping or forgotten appointments
  • Missed medications or inconsistent routines
  • Hesitation to leave the house alone
  • Family caregivers who feel overwhelmed, worried or burned out

It also supports seniors living alone and older adults with early memory changes, and it gives family caregivers a break through respite support.

How We Match Caregivers

After an initial assessment of your loved one’s needs and wishes, our client care coordinator meets personally with the client and family to define the profile of the “ideal” caregiver. We then choose two or three staff members who fit that profile and place them on a trial basis. If everyone involved is satisfied with the match, we keep those caregivers, so there is always a relief person. The number of caregivers depends on the number of care hours.

All of our caregivers are employees, not independent contractors. They undergo rigorous screening that includes driving records, the sex offender registry, federal, state and local criminal history, Social Security validation, drug testing and health screening. They also receive training in areas such as dementia care, Parkinson’s care and nutrition and cooking.

Cost and Payment

The cost depends on the type of services. Because every care plan is individualized, pricing is tailored to your loved one’s needs. We accept private pay and long-term care insurance. Contact us for a free initial assessment to discuss a plan and pricing.

Conversation, Activities and Outings

Every visit follows your loved one’s individualized care plan. A caregiver may start with conversation over a meal, then move on to games, hobbies, storytelling or reminiscing. When your loved one feels up to it, a walk or an outing to a social event can break up a long day at home and ease loneliness.

Help Around the House

Light housekeeping, laundry and organization keep the home safe and easy to manage. Caregivers can prepare nutritious meals, offer hydration and medication reminders, pick up prescriptions and run errands. Incidental transportation to doctor appointments and shopping is also available, so your loved one doesn’t have to miss what matters.

Someone Nearby for Peace of Mind

Safety supervision means someone is close by while your loved one completes everyday tasks. For families who live apart or work long hours, companion care El Paso visits offer reassurance that a familiar person is checking in.

Companion Care El Paso FAQs

What is the difference between companion care and home health care?

Companion care is non-medical and focuses on emotional well-being, routine assistance and quality of life, and it is often ongoing. Home health care is medically oriented, prescribed by a physician and delivered by licensed professionals, and it is usually temporary.

Why use Caring Companions instead of hiring a caregiver directly?

We provide a comprehensive assessment and an individualized care plan, and we screen, hire and train our caregivers. When you hire someone directly, you become the employer and are fully responsible for that caregiver.

Are your caregivers employees or independent contractors?

All of our caregivers are our employees, and all employees are bonded under our umbrella.

How do you assign a caregiver to a client?

Our client care coordinator meets with the client and family to define the ideal caregiver profile, then places two or three matching caregivers on a trial basis and keeps the match that works for everyone.

How much does companion care cost?

It depends on the type of services. Care is individualized, so pricing is tailored to your needs.

How do we pay for the services?

We accept private pay and long-term care insurance.
